Let’s face it. An out of town vacation would always include trying out the different dishes from the place. Batangas is not an exception since there are a lot of good food to try. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Lomi
Your stay in Batangas would only be complete if you get to have a taste of our sumptuous lomi. It is a Chinese-filipino dish which consists of thick egg noodles (called miki) with thick soup, and small pieces of meat as toppings. Lomi is available in almost every corner of the province, from restaurants to eateries. But lomi houses are more popular and can be found in every city. The excellent lomi houses are in Lipa City, such as Lomi King and Three Kids Lomi House.
2. Taal Tapa
Taal Tapa is considered the main product of Taal, so this hit delicacy should taste really good. Indeed, it does. This tapa (jerked pork) got its taste from being marinated in soy sauce, garlic and calamansi. It’s best enjoyed for breakfast, with garlic rice and sunny side up egg on the side. In the town of Taal, it is even served with hot tablea (cocoa) chocolate poured in rice. Wonder how that tastes like? Then visit Taal and eat your heart out with their tapa!
3. Bulalo.
Another well-liked dish is the bulalo. Simply defined, bulalo is the marrow in the bone of the beef shank. The bulalo dish is boiled bone-in beef shank, with soup and vegetables to match the taste. Try the bulalo in the Rose and Grace Restaurant “home of the famous Batangas Bulalo” located along Maharlika Hi-way in Sto. Tomas.
4. Kalderetang Kambing
Kalderetang Kambing (goat stew) is another popular delicacy in the province, especially during the town fiestas. Here, kaldereta is cooked differently, as tomato sauce is not included in the recipe. Have some during your next visit in the province during fiesta, or order in the nearest local restaurants.
5. Suman
Another yummy delicacy is the suman, which is rice cake wrapped in banana leaves. It is usually available in public markets. However, the special suman in Batangas is available in Taal, called suman sa lihiya or sumang magkayakap (tamalis in Lipa City). But whatever it is called, this suman is a sweet treat especially if it is served with latik (coconut milk solids). This is best eaten as dessert or snack.
Watch out for part 2 coming tomorrow!
I like lomi and suman sa lihiya!
Whenever we’re in Tagaytay, my parents would always order tawilis and maliputo (tama ba? basta fish sya)….
My officemates naman, we used to eat in Lipa Grill pag napupunta kami magkakasama sa Batangas dati.
Suman! Yummy!
Yup meron ngang isda na maliputo. Sarap nun gawing sinigang!
Lipa Grill is an institution in Lipa. Matagal na yan! I would also recommend checking out Banay Banay Eatery. Sarap din dun at mura pa!
