The first 5 food to try in Batangas got a lot of good feedback. So here’s what a lot of people have been waiting for. Here are 5 more food (and drink!) to try in the province!
6. Kapeng barako.
The world-class coffee which made the province very popular is a must try for coffee lovers who like their coffee strong. It can also be for those who just want to try a different twist with their coffee. If you want to stay alert all day, have some kapeng barako. Try it in Lipa City’s local pride Café de Lipa, a coffee shop that serves kapeng barako, among other coffee choices and pastries. It is located in San Carlos Drive, Mataasnalupa, Lipa City. It also has branches in Petron Startollway and SM City Lipa, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay and Market! Market! in Taguig City.
7. Our variety of fishes.
The Taal Lake is not only special for having the world’s smallest volcano in its core, but also because it contains a lot of rare fishes that are just right for the appetite of the Batangenyos and visitors alike. Maliputo is usually cooked as sinigang (boiled with tamarind and different vegetables) or grilled, served with bagoong Balayan. Then, tawilis (a small yet tasty fish) is normally cooked deep-fried to turn into crispy tawilis, a natural favorite. It can also be eaten along with green mangoes and bagoong Balayan. So if you want to try out the fresh catch, go to Taal and eat your way out with these delicious dishes.
Another table favorite among the Batangenyos is the sinaing na tulingan. One of the main products of small-medium enterprises in the province, the tulingan (tuna) is boiled and usually cooked in a pot for several hours. It can last for several days even without being refrigerated.
8. Goto
When you say ‘goto’ in Manila and other parts of the Philippines, they will serve you with something similar to rice porridge. But here, it is different. Goto is a hot soup with the cow’s internal organs. It is very tasty, and can be eaten alone or with rice. One of the best Gotong Batangas can be ordered at Gotohan sa Barangay, located in Antipolo del Norte, Lipa City.
9. Pancit tikyano
Pancit Tikyano is the popular red stir-fried noodles exclusively available at Letty’s canteen in M.H. Del Pilar St., Batangas City. When you are on your way to the city, make sure to drop by Letty’s and discover what the buzz behind the red pancit is all about!
10. Lechon
Balayan in Batangas is known for their Parade of Lechon every June. The lechons are dressed so fashionably (according to the year’s theme), that they look so good to eat. The secret for the Batangenyos’ lechon is in how the sauce is cooked. Save your appetite the next time you come in the province, and have a sample of our mouth-watering lechon!
So if you’re considering the possibility of a Batangas wedding and you’re checking out possible venues, come with an empty stomach. You’ll need all the space that you need in order to taste all the wonderful food that Batangenyos are proud about.
